Helicopter Crash: Lordina Mahama Overcome with Emotion at Flower-Laying Ceremony

First Lady Lordina Mahama was visibly moved to tears during the solemn flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony held in honour of the victims of the recent military helicopter crash.

Overcome with grief, Mrs. Mahama was comforted by her children, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Communication Minister Sam George, Joyce Bawa, and other close associates and government officials.

The emotional scenes follow yesterday’s opening of the three-day mourning period, where President John Mahama and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah also became visibly emotional during the wreath-laying ceremony.

The commemoration will conclude on Saturday, August 9, with an Evening of Reflections and Memorials at the Forecourt of the State House from 5:00 p.m. The final gathering will bring together government officials, citizens, and members of the diplomatic community to celebrate the lives and contributions of the deceased, with official tributes delivered in their honour.

Those remembered include:

Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed

Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed

NDC Vice Chairman and former Kumasi Mayor, Dr. Samuel Sarpong

Former Obuasi East parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

Flying Officer Twum Ampadu

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
