The Adele Traditional Council in the Oti Region has performed a solemn libation ceremony to honour the victims of the recent military helicopter crash and to seek divine intervention against similar disasters in the future.
In a statement, Nana Amanfo Monfankye of Dadiase expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy involving the Ghana Armed Forces’ Z9 helicopter, which was bound for Obuasi. The crash claimed the lives of eight dedicated officers who were serving their country with courage and commitment.
The Council described the incident as one that has “plunged the nation into darkness and mourning,” paying tribute to the ministers, government officials, and service personnel whose lives were lost. Their absence, it said, leaves a silence that will never be filled.
Offering words of comfort, the Council assured President John Dramani Mahama and the bereaved families of their continuous prayers, invoking both God Almighty and Allah to grant them strength, mercy, and peace during this difficult period.
Nana Monfankye further urged Ghanaians to channel their grief into unity and to support the government’s efforts in addressing the menace of illegal mining, which poses threats to lives and development.
Echoing this call, Ohema Nsifor Okolor stressed the importance of maintaining peace among all ethnic groups in Nkwanta as a foundation for progress. She lamented the municipality’s declining development status, which has worsened the hardships faced by men and women in the community.
Despite the irreplaceable loss, the Council affirmed that the legacy of the fallen heroes will endure in the nation’s memory.
“May the good Lord and Allah comfort all Ghanaians in this time of grief,” the statement concluded.
