GPRTU Stages Massive Demo in Accra Over Alleged Lorry Station Land Takeover

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and allied transport workers are staging a large-scale protest in Accra on Tuesday, September 16, over what they describe as the unlawful takeover of lands reserved for lorry stations by private investors.

The demonstration has caused major traffic disruptions across parts of the capital, as drivers and traders march to petition government to protect transport infrastructure and their livelihoods.

The action follows a press conference held on Monday, September 15, where Samuel Amoah, Deputy Public Relations Officer of GPRTU, announced the protest as the culmination of long-standing grievances.

“This demonstration is to send a clear message to both government and private investors about the importance of safeguarding lorry station lands, which are vital to Accra’s transport network,” Mr. Amoah said.

Protesters are expected to present a petition to relevant state authorities later today.
