Asante Kotoko have voiced frustration over the slow pace of investigations into the death of supporter Nana Frimpong Pooley, more than seven months after the incident.
The 27-year-old fan was stabbed to death on February 2 during a Premier League match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC. Since then, eight people have been standing trial, but no verdict has been reached.
Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, told JoySports the case has been repeatedly adjourned, with the next hearing scheduled for October 9.
“The matter is pending in court, it is for the state because this is a criminal matter. Last Wednesday we were in court, and it was adjourned to October 9. All we are waiting for is for the processes to be sped up,” he said
“You cannot put any blame on anybody because of the nature of our judicial system. It has always been slow.”
The killing, which sparked outrage, forced the suspension of last season’s Premier League for over a month as stakeholders introduced new safety and security measures. Nsoatreman FC later withdrew from the competition.
Despite the tragedy, Kotoko went on to finish the season in third place and began the new campaign with a 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
