GMet Issues Alert as Heavy Rainstorm, Flood Risk Loom Over Ghana Today

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a high-impact weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall, intense thunderstorms, and strong winds expected to sweep across the country today.

According to the advisory, issued at 0000 UTC and effective from 0130 UTC, a major rainstorm system is advancing westward from Nigeria and Benin into Ghana. The agency warns of a heightened risk of flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable regions to take immediate safety precautions, as the storm poses a significant threat to infrastructure, transportation, and public safety.

The warning comes amid a broader pattern of erratic weather in West Africa, raising concerns about preparedness and the resilience of urban drainage systems in major Ghanaian cities.
