Ghana’s First Lady Lordina Mahama to Deliver Keynote at UN Children’s Prayer Service

Ghana’s First Lady, Lordina Mahama, will deliver the keynote address at the 7th Annual Prayer Service for Children, to be held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The interfaith gathering, scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. ET, will take place at the Church Center for the United Nations, Tillman Chapel. Organized by World Vision International alongside a coalition of global faith-based and humanitarian organizations, the event will be held under the theme “A Moment of Hope.”

This year’s service focuses on six spiritual and emotional dimensions—compassion, resilience, purpose, joy, wisdom, and spiritual life—aimed at galvanizing global action for vulnerable children amid mounting humanitarian challenges.

Mrs. Mahama’s appearance underscores her growing international profile as an advocate for child welfare. As First Lady, she has championed initiatives in Ghana focused on improving children’s access to healthcare, education, and social protection services. Her advocacy has earned her recognition from development partners and humanitarian groups worldwide.

Other confirmed speakers include Andrew J. Morley, President and CEO of World Vision International, and Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme.

The annual service convenes heads of state, faith leaders, and senior officials from international organizations to reflect, pray, and reaffirm commitments to advancing the well-being of children globally—particularly in regions affected by poverty, conflict, and displacement.

The event comes as global institutions confront a growing set of crises, from food insecurity to disrupted education systems, all of which disproportionately affect children. Organizers say the gathering is intended not only as a moment of reflection but as a call to action.
