Ghana is set to reopen its embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, September 16, following a three-month closure prompted by security concerns, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced Monday.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series in Accra, Mr.Ablakwa assured the public that “all necessary measures” had been taken to protect diplomatic personnel stationed in Iran.
“I can announce that after three months of closure of our embassy in Iran, we shall fully reopen tomorrow, the 16th of September 2025,” the Minister stated, adding that the safety of Ghana’s diplomatic staff has been “guaranteed.”
The embassy was closed earlier this year amid what officials described as a volatile security environment. While specific details surrounding the shutdown remain unclear, the move was part of broader efforts by Ghana’s foreign ministry to reassess and reinforce safety protocols at its missions abroad.
With the reopening, the embassy is expected to resume full diplomatic services and consular operations in Iran, signaling a renewed commitment to Ghana-Iran relations.
