Ghana-Russia Center Mourns Victims of Helicopter Crash

The Ghana-Russia Center for Commerce and Relations has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including five senior government officials and three crew members, in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Center’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John Aggrey, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a heartbreaking national tragedy.

Among the victims were Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Also on board were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate.

The military crew members lost in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

The delegation was en route to Obuasi for an official assignment related to efforts against illegal mining when the Ghana Armed Forces aircraft went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

Mr. Aggrey described the fallen leaders as “dedicated public servants who tirelessly contributed to the development and progress of our nation,” adding, “Ghana has been robbed of patriots whose legacies will live on.”

He called for national unity during this time of mourning and urged citizens to honour the memory of the departed with dignity, respect, and a renewed commitment to the ideals they stood for.
