GES Releases Funds to Support 2025 WASSCE Practical Exams

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has disbursed funds to senior high schools nationwide to cover the cost of practical examinations for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), in a move aimed at easing financial pressures on families and ensuring the smooth conduct of the exams.

The funds, allocated to Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs), are intended to provide essential materials and logistical support for science, technical, and vocational practical sessions—a core component of the WASSCE assessment.

“This payment ensures that all practical examinations scheduled for the 2025 WASSCE are fully supported,” said Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES. “It includes the provision of required materials and other essential resources necessary for successful implementation.”

GES said the intervention is designed to eliminate financial barriers that might affect students’ performance, allowing them to focus entirely on academic preparation.

“With this intervention, GES hopes to facilitate a smooth and well-coordinated examination process,” Mr. Fenyi said. “Our goal is to enable students to concentrate on their studies without being distracted by financial concerns related to practical exams.”

School administrators at the regional and district levels have been instructed to ensure the funds are used strictly for their intended purpose. GES also emphasized its intention to closely monitor how the funds are utilized, reinforcing expectations of accountability and transparency.

“We strongly urge all stakeholders involved to ensure the judicious use of these funds,” Mr. Fenyi said, adding that GES management will continue to oversee the process to maintain high standards in examination delivery.

The 2025 WASSCE will involve thousands of candidates across Ghana, with practical examinations forming a significant part of the final assessments. GES also extended its appreciation to education stakeholders for their continued support in upholding academic standards.

“We remain committed to creating an enabling environment that supports the success of every student in the country,” Fenyi noted.
