.Ghana’s Education Service has reinstated Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across all pre-tertiary institutions following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, marking a renewed push for community engagement in public education.
The announcement, issued Thursday by the Ghana Education Service (GES), directs heads of all public senior high, technical, and STEM schools to immediately operationalize the return of PTAs. The move reverses years of diminished PTA activity and is expected to deepen collaboration among parents, teachers, and school administrators.
“This directive aims to strengthen the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities, and teachers in delivering quality education to Ghanaian learners,” said Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES.
GES said further guidelines outlining the structure, responsibilities, and financial oversight mechanisms of the PTAs will be released in the coming weeks. The agency emphasized that the updated framework will focus on enhancing transparency, standardization, and efficiency in PTA operations nationwide.
The reinstatement is seen as part of President Mahama’s broader education reform agenda, which prioritizes stakeholder involvement and improved governance in the management of public schools.
“We count on the support of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of this important policy,” the statement concluded.
