The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, together with his elders, has laid a floral tribute in honour of the eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash.
The ceremony, held on Saturday, August 9, formed part of a series of national mourning activities to remember the deceased and express solidarity with their families.
Ghana has been in deep sorrow since a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter went down in the Adansi-Akrofuom District, claiming the lives of all eight people on board, including two cabinet ministers. In the wake of the tragedy, the government declared a three-day national mourning period, beginning Thursday, August 7, during which all national flags were flown at half-mast
The flower-laying, which took place on the second day of mourning at the Jubilee House in Accra, has since drawn a steady stream of mourners. The act stands as a powerful symbol of the nation’s collective grief.
Those honoured in the tribute include:
• Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
• Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
• Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
• Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
• Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC
• Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, military officer
• Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, military officer
• Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, military officer
A state funeral for all eight victims will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra. The inter-denominational service will offer the nation a final opportunity to unite in paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
