Ga Mantse Pays Floral Tribute to Helicopter Crash Victims

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, together with his elders, has laid a floral tribute in honour of the eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash.

The ceremony, held on Saturday, August 9, formed part of a series of national mourning activities to remember the deceased and express solidarity with their families.

Ghana has been in deep sorrow since a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter went down in the Adansi-Akrofuom District, claiming the lives of all eight people on board, including two cabinet ministers. In the wake of the tragedy, the government declared a three-day national mourning period, beginning Thursday, August 7, during which all national flags were flown at half-mast

The flower-laying, which took place on the second day of mourning at the Jubilee House in Accra, has since drawn a steady stream of mourners. The act stands as a powerful symbol of the nation’s collective grief.

Those honoured in the tribute include:

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology

Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate

Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, military officer

Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, military officer

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, military officer

state funeral for all eight victims will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra. The inter-denominational service will offer the nation a final opportunity to unite in paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
