Four individuals have been arrested across Ghana for allegedly practising medicine without the required certification, the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has announced.
The arrests followed undercover operations carried out between September 2024 and August 2025. The suspects are said to have been operating medical facilities and treating patients without proper authorisation from the regulatory body.
Those arrested include:
Kate Baidoo – Osag Medical Centre, Nsakena
Ebenezer Koomson – E & E Medical Centre, Gomoa Afransi
Innocent Tagbovi – Mighty Clinic, Madina
Ebenezer Sarpong – Goodcare Medical Centre, Swalaba Bukom
In a a press briefing on Friday, the Council said Ms Baidoo was found consulting a patient during an undercover visit, despite having no registration with the MDC.
Mr Koomson, the Council added, had completed a Physician Assistant programme but had not passed the Council’s licentiate examination—a mandatory step for legal practice. He was reportedly providing medical services regardless.
Mr Tagbovi, previously arrested in 2017 for similar offences, was once again discovered attending to patients without a valid licence. He reportedly told investigators he had failed the licentiate exam on two occasions.
The most recent arrest took place in August, when Mr Sarpong was found practising medicine at his facility in central Accra.
All four individuals are currently assisting police with investigations and may face prosecution.
The MDC said it remains committed to protecting public health and ensuring that only qualified professionals are allowed to practice medicine in the country.
