Ghana’s local currency, the cedi, has made a slight recovery on the interbank market, strengthening against the U.S. dollar and other major trading currencies.
According to the Bank of Ghana’s daily update, the cedi is currently trading at a buying price of GH¢10.89 and a selling price of GH¢10.90 to the dollar. The British pound is quoted at GH¢14.75 (buying) and GH¢14.76 (selling), while the euro is trading at GH¢12.77 (buying) and GH¢12.78 (selling).
However, checks by Ghanaclassifies Business on August 25, 2025, revealed slightly higher rates at some forex bureaus across the country. The dollar was trading around GH¢12.10, the pound at GH¢16.10, and the euro at GH¢14.00 on the retail market.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, disclosed that the cedi appreciated by 42% during the first half of 2025, underscoring the central bank’s efforts to stabilize the currency.
