Former presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party members to put aside divisive actions and rhetoric as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Addressing delegates during a three-day zonal constituency engagement in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia cautioned that words and deeds directed against fellow party members could provide “ready-made ammunition” for political opponents.
He emphasized that unity would be the NPP’s strongest weapon going into the next polls. “Unity is non-negotiable if we want to win in 2028. Without unity, we cannot win,” he stated. “The NPP is a formidable force when we come together with a single purpose. When we unite and work together, we will make a swift return to the Jubilee House.”
With the party scheduled to elect its 2028 flagbearer on January 31, 2026, Dr. Bawumia urged aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves with decorum, stressing that the party must close ranks after the primaries in order to mount a credible national campaign.
Reaffirming his commitment to reconciliation and teamwork, he said: “I want everyone to know and understand that I have no issues with anyone, so don’t look at someone helping with my campaign and decide not to vote for me. You will be voting for me, not the person. Please vote for me, and forgive the person. If God gives me victory, I will do everything in my power to bring my fellow competitors and their supporters on board so we work together and achieve victory.”
Dr. Bawumia reminded supporters that disunity could undermine even the best candidate’s chances, urging members at all levels of the party to prioritize collective strength over individual interests.
