The Bank Hospital has pushed back against allegations that it mishandled confidential medical information related to the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu—widely known as Daddy Lumba—a beloved figure in Ghana’s music industry who died at the facility on July 26.
In a statement released Tuesday, the hospital asserted that all care provided to Mr. Fosu was administered in accordance with professional and ethical standards. “The care provided to Mr. Charles Kwadwo Fosu was delivered with professionalism, dignity, and strict confidentiality,” the statement read.
The response follows a wave of online speculation alleging that sensitive medical details about the 60-year-old artist were leaked in the days leading up to and following his death. While the hospital did not detail the nature of the claims, it said that Mr. Fosu’s family was kept informed throughout his treatment and reiterated its commitment to protecting patient privacy.
As part of efforts to reassure the public and uphold institutional integrity, Bank Hospital has initiated an internal review to assess the circumstances surrounding the musician’s admission and care. Management said the review is intended to “further strengthen our commitment to patient care and confidentiality.”
The hospital also called on the public to avoid circulating unverified information and urged reliance on credible sources for updates.
Mr. Fosu, a celebrated highlife musician whose career spanned more than four decades, was widely regarded as a cultural icon in Ghana. The hospital extended condolences to his family, government officials, and his global fan base, calling his death the loss of “a national treasure.”
