The Government has announced burial plans for two senior Muslim officials who perished in a military helicopter crash last week, as the nation continues to mourn the loss of eight individuals in one of the country’s deadliest aviation incidents in recent memory.
Janazah (Islamic funeral) prayers for Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, will be held Sunday, August 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Military Cemetery.
The two were among the victims of a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The crash claimed the lives of all eight individuals on board, including Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and several military personnel.
In response, the government declared a three-day national mourning period beginning August 7. The observance included a nationwide flower-laying ceremony and an evening of reflection, drawing hundreds of mourners to events across the country.

Government officials have not released details about the cause of the crash. The Ghana Armed Forces have said an investigation is underway.
The loss has sent ripples through the country’s political and military leadership, prompting expressions of condolence from across the region and beyond.
