2025 School Placement Exercise to Begin September 17 – GES

Ghana’s Education Service (GES) has announced that the nationwide school placement exercise for the 2025 academic year will begin on September 17, following the release of provisional results for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, GES Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis outlined the timeline for the rollout of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), which assigns qualified junior high school graduates to senior high schools and technical institutions across the country.

Ahead of the placement date, students will have the opportunity to verify and correct any errors in their submitted data—including gender, school codes, and program selections—during a review window running from September 1 to 8. This new feature, Prof. Davis said, is aimed at reducing placement errors and increasing transparency in the system.

“Candidates will be able to log onto the CSSPS portal and verify their details online,” he said. “An explainer video will be available to guide parents through the process.”

Students who secure placements will be expected to report to their assigned schools between October 18 and October 20, marking the official start of the academic calendar for newly placed students.

Prof. Davis also issued a warning against attempts to manipulate the placement process through bribery or influence, emphasizing that admissions will be conducted on merit.

“The GES cautions parents and students not to engage any third parties or make any payments in the hope of securing preferred school placements,” he stated. “The system remains fair, transparent, and strictly merit-based.”

The CSSPS platform has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s education reform efforts, seeking to eliminate human interference and improve equity in the transition from basic to secondary education.
