A total of twelve aspirants have formally filed their nominations to contest the Tamale Central Constituency primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The filing process, which closed this week, comes after 14 individuals initially picked up nomination forms when the exercise opened on August 18, 2025. However, two aspirants—National Vice Chairman Rauf Halid and Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu—later withdrew from the race, citing personal reasons.
The submission exercise drew a steady stream of hopefuls and their representatives to the party’s constituency office. Dr. Seidu Mohammed Fiter was the first to file his forms, followed by representatives of the former Mayor of Tamale, Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, and the party’s Regional Treasurer, Hajia Shamima Yakubu.
Other notable aspirants include Prof. Abdul Razak Abubakari, a senior lecturer at the Tamale Technical University; Osman Alhassan Gomba, Deputy Treasurer for Tamale Central; Aliu Abdul-Hamid; Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba, former Chair of the NDC UK Chapter; Mariama Naama Salifu, a diplomat; Dr. Abdul-Rahaman Abdul-Rahaman; Sadat Haruna Alhassan; Hajia Mulaika Salisu; and Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science.
Speaking to the media after the close of nominations, the NDC’s Regional Deputy Secretary, Saka Ziblim, said the party is fully prepared for the vetting process, scheduled for August 31, 2025.
He further disclosed that the party has formally requested security support from the police and military to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
