The Volta Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has debunked a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show an altercation between a patient’s relative and nurses at the South Tongu Municipal Hospital in Sogakope. The Directorate clarified that the footage is an old incident being wrongly presented as a recent event.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 4, 2025, and signed by the Regional Director of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, the Directorate explained that the incident occurred about a year ago and was fully investigated and resolved in accordance with Ghana Health Service protocols.
“The incident in question occurred about a year ago and was thoroughly investigated and addressed at the time in accordance with the protocols and requirements of the Ghana Health Service,” the statement noted.
The Directorate condemned the renewed circulation of the outdated video, describing it as a deliberate attempt to distort facts and tarnish the reputation of both the hospital and the Ghana Health Service.
It cautioned that such acts are irresponsible, cause needless public anxiety, and erode trust in the nation’s healthcare system.
“We strongly condemn the malicious redistribution of outdated content as though it reflects a recent occurrence. Such actions create unwarranted public anxiety, undermine trust in healthcare institutions, and distract from the progress being made in improving patient care and health services,” the statement added.
The Volta Regional Health Directorate urged the public and media organizations to verify the authenticity and timing of any content before sharing or publishing to help curb the spread of misinformation.
It further assured the public that hospitals across the Volta Region remain dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of healthcare delivery in line with Ghana Health Service guidelines.
