The University of Ghana has lifted its temporary ban on social gatherings following a marked drop in COVID-19 cases on campus, according to a statement released Monday by the Office of Student Affairs.
The restrictions, which had been in place since June 26, were instituted as part of emergency health measures after a resurgence of infections. The decision to lift the ban was made in consultation with University Health Services and senior management, the university said.
“The restriction on social gatherings on the University of Ghana campus due to the resurgence of COVID-19 has been lifted with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The policy shift paves the way for the resumption of events organized by student groups, academic departments, religious organizations, and residence halls. Key student bodies, including the Student Representative Council (SRC), Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and religious associations, may now resume regular activities and weekly gatherings.
Despite the easing of restrictions, university authorities urged the campus community to remain vigilant. “All COVID-19 protocols should be adhered to. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated,” the statement added.
