Villarreal head coach Marcelino says Ghana international Thomas Partey is fully prepared for his side’s UEFA Champions League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.
The Spanish outfit travel to London for their first Group Stage fixture, marking Partey’s return to England since leaving Arsenal last season.
The 32-year-old midfielder, who will appear at the Old Bailey later this week for a plea hearing on rape and sexual assault charges, is expected to feature against Spurs.
Marcelino, however, insists Partey remains focused on football.
“I am totally convinced that he is mentally prepared and technically prepared to play,” the Villarreal boss said ahead of the clash.
“We are very happy Thomas is with us for his football capacity, his ability, and his presence as a human. He has great experience from top clubs, and I believe he will get back to his best level.”
Partey parted ways with Arsenal at the end of last season after his contract expired before signing with Villarreal in the summer.
The Champions League tie between Tottenham Hotspur and Villarreal kicks off at 19:00 GMT at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
