TikToker Jailed Seven Months for Threats Against Mahama, Government Officials

David Kwodow Prah Afful, a TikToker widely known as Kwame Nkrumah II, has been sentenced to seven months in prison after threatening to kill President John Mahama, Members of Parliament, and other government officials in a viral video.

Afful appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of threat of death and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace. In court, he expressed remorse and appealed to government officials to forgive him for his actions.

The Ghana Police Service arrested him on Saturday, September 13, at his hideout near Kasoa Market around 2:20 p.m., following the circulation of a TikTok livestream in which he issued death threats. In the video, Afful allegedly threatened to kill public officials, journalists, and civil servants, while also suggesting violent acts such as burning markets and encouraging others to follow suit.

Police emphasized in a statement that while freedom of speech is guaranteed, it does not extend to statements that incite violence, insecurity, or public disorder.
