The court appearance of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey on rape and sexual assault charges has been adjourned to September 15.
The 32-year-old was initially scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey in London on Tuesday, September 2, but the case has now been rescheduled to Southwark Crown Court later this month.
The adjournment effectively clears any uncertainty surrounding Partey’s availability for Ghana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed his inclusion in the 24-man squad, describing him as “in the right frame of mind and in top shape” ahead of the fixtures.
Partey has already joined the Black Stars camp as the team departed Accra on Tuesday afternoon for N’Djamena. Ghana face Chad on Thursday at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno before playing Mali in their next qualifier.
The Black Stars currently sit top of Group I after six matches as they continue their push for a fifth World Cup appearance.
