The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced temporary road closures in and around the Manhyia Palace to facilitate the smooth observance of the one-week funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on August 7, 2025.
The one-week observation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Roads to be Closed
As part of the security and traffic management arrangements, the following roads leading to the Manhyia Palace will be closed to vehicular traffic:
• Manhyia Bonjour Road (from Airport Roundabout to Manhyia Palace)
• Sumankwahene’s Junction Road to Manhyia Palace
• Nick Petroleum Filling Station Road to Manhyia Palace
• St. Ann’s Anglican Church Road to Manhyia Palace
• Manhyia Government Hospital Road through to Alaba
• Yokohene’s Palace Street leading to the Palace
• Hyiawuhemaa’s Palace Street
• Nana Akwasi Agyemang Junction to the Manhyia Museum
Traffic Diversions
• Commercial vehicles from Dichemso and Airport Roundabout, as well as private vehicles using the Manhyia Bonjour Road, will be diverted through Asawase Police Station and Kainako Road towards the Kumasi Central Mosque to access the central business district.
• Access beyond diversion points will be restricted to invited guests and participants of the funeral celebration.
• Vehicles from 19 Steps Road near the Manhyia Roundabout through Alaba will also be redirected accordingly.
Parking Arrangements
• Government Officials: Antoa Station Car Park (entry allowed only with official stickers).
• Chiefs and Queen Mothers: Melcom Car Park and DKC Car Park.
• General Public: Central Mosque Car Park, Asawasi Methodist Park, and Atipimhene’s Park.
In addition, free shuttle services will be provided for the general public from:
• Asawasi Methodist Park
• Central Mosque Car Park
Additional Restrictions
• Vehicles found parked in unauthorized areas will be towed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly yard at the owner’s cost.
• Tricycles (Aboboyaa), rickshaws (Pragia), and motorbikes are strictly banned from accessing the closed roads and the Manhyia Palace grounds during the event.
“This measure is to ensure safety, orderliness, and smooth traffic flow. Operators and motorists are advised to comply fully with the restrictions to avoid impoundment,” the Police statement emphasized.
The Police Command is urging motorists and the general public to cooperate fully to ensure dignified, safe, and effective traffic management during the one-week observation of the late Asantehemaa.
