Support Fund for Children of Helicopter Crash Victims Raises GHS7.2 Million, $20,000

The Support fund established to provide for the children of victims of the August 6 helicopter crash has raised GHS7,292,135 (approximately $602,000) and $20,000 in fresh donations between Sept. 12 and Sept. 24, according to an update from fund organizers.

The Children’s Support Fund, launched in the aftermath of the fatal crash that claimed multiple lives, has drawn contributions from a mix of private individuals, corporations, and government-linked entities.

Recent donors include Risk Management Ltd., Federated Commodities, Willbeck Consult, Sida Global Logistics & Engineering Ltd., and the Ghana Gold Board. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also contributed, alongside private donors such as Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive Michael Kpakpo Allotey and Dr. Li and Chen Guo Wei.

Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, a senior presidential advisor and the fund’s coordinator, said in a statement that the funds will be applied directly to cover education, healthcare, and general welfare costs for the children affected by the crash.

“These contributions demonstrate a collective commitment to safeguarding the futures of these young ones,” Dr. Sawyerr said.

The fund continues to solicit support from the public. Donations are being accepted through accounts at Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited (Stanbic Heights Branch) in both local and foreign currency. Contributions may also be made via cheque, bank draft, or mobile money.

The August 6 helicopter crash, one of the country’s deadliest aviation incidents in recent memory, sparked a wave of national mourning and prompted ongoing philanthropic efforts across sectors.
