A key ramp at the Sofoline Interchange in Ghana’s Ashanti Region will be temporarily closed for over two weeks beginning September 3 to allow for structural repairs, regional transport officials announced.
The Department of Urban Roads said the closure will affect the ramp connecting the Sofoline Terminal to the Santasi Roundabout and Patasi. The section will remain inaccessible through September 19 as engineers undertake maintenance work on the expansion joint of the approach slab—a critical component that absorbs movement and load on the roadway.
In a notice signed by Regional Director Surv. Na-em Iddrisu, the Department advised motorists traveling toward Patasi and Santasi to use designated alternative routes and obey all posted directional signage during the repair period.
“Traffic management measures will be in place to minimize disruption, and we urge all motorists to cooperate fully to ensure safety and reduce delays,” the statement said. The department also issued an apology for any inconvenience the work may cause.
The Sofoline Interchange is a major traffic artery in Kumasi, and the ramp closure is expected to impact daily commuter traffic. Officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead to avoid congestion during peak hours.
