The Ghana Police Service has uncovered chilling forensic evidence linked to the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was discovered on July 9, 2025, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra.
Officer Amoah, who was stationed at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Headquarters, had been reported missing since July 4, prompting a wide-ranging search that culminated in the tragic discovery.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra today, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), provided a detailed update on the progress of the investigation. She confirmed that the prime suspect, initially charged with kidnapping, has now been formally charged with murder following damning forensic findings.
Disturbing Evidence Recovered at Multiple Crime Scenes
“A forensic inspection revealed bloodstains in the suspect’s living room, signs of attempted cleanup, freshly painted walls, and an empty can of spray paint,” COP Donkor stated.
Further searches near the original crime scene uncovered:
- A burnt wooden carpet stained with blood
- Partially burnt camouflage fabric
- A fufu pestle covered in blood, found wrapped in polythene just 100 metres from the suspect’s home
These items were all photographed, collected, and processed for forensic analysis. On July 24, investigators obtained a court warrant to re-enter the suspect’s home, where additional blood spatters were documented and sampled.
Police also impounded the suspect’s vehicle, in which traces of human blood were discovered. COP Donkor confirmed that initial tests on the collected samples had tested positive for human blood.
To conclusively link the biological evidence to Officer Amoah, DNA samples were collected from the deceased’s mother and son. Results are currently pending.
Murder Charge and Court Proceedings
The suspect, Bright Aweh, who was originally detained on a kidnapping charge, has now been re-arrested and charged with murder. He was remanded after appearing before the Adabraka District Court, and is expected to reappear on August 8, 2025.
Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt for Accomplices
Police have launched a special operation to trace and apprehend potential accomplices believed to be involved in the gruesome crime.
“We are following other vital leads to gather all necessary evidence against the suspect and his accomplices,” COP Donkor stated.
The Ghana Police Service is urging the public to assist with credible information that could aid in the swift arrest of additional suspects and ensure justice is served for the slain officer.
