Police Call Political Parties to Meeting on Election Violence and Akwatia By-election

The Ghana Police Service has invited political parties to a high-level meeting to address concerns over election-related violence and to discuss preparations for the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the Akwatia Constituency.

In a letter signed by the Commissioner of Police and Director-General of Administration, Dr. David Agyemang Adjem, the Police announced that the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. It will take place at the 5th Floor Conference Room of the Police Headquarters in Accra.

The correspondence indicated that the engagement will provide a platform for deliberations on security and operational arrangements for the polls, alongside updates from the Electoral Commission (EC) on its readiness to conduct the election.

“The meeting will discuss the modalities for the by-election, as well as the Electoral Commission’s preparedness and roadmap for the parliamentary by-election,” the letter stated.

The Police Administration expressed confidence that political parties will cooperate fully with the process and urged their representatives to attend. The Electoral Commission, which is mandated to conduct the by-election, was also copied in the communication.
