Okuapehene To Grace This Year's Odwira / Ohum Festival Grand Durbar In Atlanta, Georgia

The Okuapemman Association of USA and Canada (OKUSACA) is set to host a grand celebration of Ghanaian culture and heritage during Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, marking the organization’s 40th Anniversary and the 38th annual Odwira/Ohum North American Festival.

The festivities will take place from Friday, August 29, to Monday, September 1, 2025, at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta, located at 1775 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA. The event will be hosted by OKUSACA’s Atlanta Chapter in collaboration with the Gwinnett County Government.

The highlight of the weekend will be the presence of the Okuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, who will be honored at a grand durbar featuring resplendent traditional chiefs, queen mothers, linguists, and a vibrant display of Ghanaian cultural drumming and dancing. The durbar is expected to mirror the grandeur of a traditional Akuapem/Asuogya gathering.

A Dinner Dance Fundraiser will be held on Saturday evening, aimed at raising funds to rehabilitate a health facility in the Akuapem or Asuogya area. Organizers say the attendance of Oseadeeyo will elevate the celebration and strengthen the cultural connection between the diaspora and their roots in Ghana.

Founded in 1985, OKUSACA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural organization that unites Akuapems in North America through its chapters in Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Toronto (Canada), Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The association is committed to promoting unity, cultural preservation, and development projects in the Akuapem and Asuogya districts of Ghana.

The four-day event is expected to attract thousands of Akuapem and Asuogya indigenes and friends of Ghanaian culture from across North America and beyond.

Activities lined up include a Youth Beauty Pageant and Talent Contest on Friday, August 29, and multiple cultural and musical performances throughout the weekend. Ghanaian hiplife sensation Kofi Nti, originally from Aburi, will headline the entertainment, delivering live performances that promise to thrill attendees.

Organizers are encouraging the public to participate in what is expected to be a culturally enriching and impactful celebration.
