Obuobia Darko-Opoku Appointed to Lead Ghana Medical Trust Fund Secretariat

The Presidency has appointed Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Acting Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), as Administrator of the newly established Ghana Medical Trust Fund Secretariat, according to an official communication issued this week.

The reassignment, made under Article 195(1) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and Section 15(1) of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Act, 2025 (Act 1144), is subject to the advice of the Fund’s Governing Board in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Ms. Darko-Opoku assumed her role at GACL in March 2025 and was introduced to staff by Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare during a durbar at the company’s headquarters. Her move to the new secretariat signals a strategic shift as the government begins operationalizing the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, aimed at bolstering healthcare financing and delivery.

Further details regarding Ms. Darko-Opoku’s transition and the Secretariat’s policy direction are expected in the coming weeks, as stakeholders await a roadmap for the Fund’s implementation.
