The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is calling for heightened enforcement of traffic regulations across the country following a deadly crash on the Atwedie-Asankare section of the N6 Highway that claimed 16 lives and left several others critically injured.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday, July 28, 2025, prompting renewed concerns about road safety and driver behaviour.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 31, the NRSA extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and the affected transport associations. The Authority also urged the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD)to intensify its enforcement efforts to curb road crashes.
“Motorists are strongly cautioned to observe all safety rules, including speed limits, vehicle maintenance standards, and responsible driving practices. The safety of every road user remains a shared responsibility,” the statement read.
The NRSA emphasized the need for stricter compliance with traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies and reiterated its ongoing commitment to collaborative efforts with key stakeholders.
“We remain committed to safeguarding lives and reducing the frequency and severity of crashes on our roads,” the Authority stated.
The NRSA said it will continue working closely with the Ghana Police Service, transport unions, and civil society organisations to strengthen road safety measures across the country.
