NPP Activist ‘Sir Obama Pokuase’ Arrested Over Alleged Illegal Firearms Display

The Ghana Police Service on Tuesday arrested Daniel Adomako, a political activist aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), as part of a broader crackdown on the illegal possession and dissemination of high-powered firearms.

Known by his social media moniker “Sir Obama Pokuase,” Mr. Adomako was taken into custody following an intelligence-led operation involving multiple security agencies, according to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service.

The arrest follows the online circulation of images and video footage—allegedly posted by Mr. Adomako—showing individuals openly brandishing military-grade weapons. Investigators believe the material may be tied to a broader criminal network engaged in the distribution of illicit arms.

Authorities confirmed Mr. Adomako is currently assisting with ongoing investigations. His arrest is considered a focal point in the government's efforts to dismantle groups involved in the proliferation and public display of unauthorized weapons.

Over the past several weeks, the multi-agency operation has resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illegal arms and ammunition. Police say three additional individuals have been detained on separate allegations, including threats of violence and the dissemination of false information.

On August 12, law enforcement officials apprehended two suspects connected to a widely circulated TikTok video in which threats were allegedly made against former President John Mahama and his wife, former First Lady Lordina Mahama. Authorities report the investigation into those threats remains ongoing.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to addressing threats to national security and cracking down on the unlawful spread of weaponry, particularly on social media platforms.
