The National Identification Authority (NIA) will begin issuing Ghana Cards to children aged 6 to 14 starting Monday, October 6, as part of a phased nationwide rollout of the national ID system to younger citizens.
The distribution will initially take place across 56 districts, targeting children who have already completed the registration process. Cards will be delivered at the same school locations where the original biometric data was collected.
To receive the card, each child must be physically present and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Guardians are required to present the original registration receipt, known as Form A, issued at the time of enrollment.
The NIA confirmed that it has cleared all backlogs of previously unprinted Ghana Cards and is prepared to scale the exercise to additional districts in the coming days. Officials said further details on new registrations for unregistered children in the age group would be announced soon.
The agency is urging parents and guardians to fully cooperate to ensure the process proceeds smoothly. The move is part of Ghana’s broader effort to create a unified national identification system aimed at improving access to public services, streamlining data management, and enhancing national planning.
