Murder Trial of KNUST Student Postponed to September 15

The trial of Daniel Tuffuor, a 21-year-old final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), accused of murdering his girlfriend, has been adjourned to September 15, 2025.

Tuffuor was arrested on February 27, shortly after the body of 22-year-old Joana Deladem Yabani was discovered on the university campus. Campus security, alerted to the scene, immediately notified local police.

According to investigators, Tuffuor and Yabani were in a romantic relationship at the time of the incident. CCTV footage, cited in court filings, allegedly shows a man believed to be Tuffuor strangling the victim during what authorities described as a violent altercation.

Tuffuor has since been remanded into prison custody and is facing trial at the Prempeh District Court in Kumasi. Police say their investigation is ongoing.

Yabani has been laid to rest, with funeral rites concluded earlier this year. Prosecutors have not indicated whether additional charges or evidence will be presented when proceedings resume next month.
