Mahama: Seven New Stadiums Set for Construction Next Year

President John Dramani Mahama says his administration is gearing up to construct seven brand new stadia across Ghana next year — a bold move aimed at reshaping the country’s sports infrastructure and energizing regional football development.

Speaking at the Jubilee House on Saturday during a visit from players and officials of Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars, Mahama outlined the government's ambitious plan to ensure every new region gets its own modern stadium.

“The Finance Minister is going to present the budget in November,” Mahama said, “and I was telling the Sports Minister and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority that next year, we are going to build about seven brand new stadia.”

The initiative, he emphasized, is part of a broader strategy to level the playing field — literally — by improving sports facilities nationwide. “We want every new region to have a stadium that is fit for purpose,” Mahama added, “so we can improve the playing conditions and make our football more competitive.”

The announcement signals a significant investment in grassroots and regional sports, an area that has long suffered from inadequate infrastructure despite Ghana’s passionate football culture.

While details on locations and timelines remain under wraps, the President's remarks have already sparked hope among local clubs and fans eager for better facilities and more equitable opportunities across the country's regions.

The proposed stadia are expected to form a cornerstone of Ghana’s sports development agenda — but with a national budget still to be presented, all eyes will be on Parliament in November.
