Mahama, Opoku-Agyemang Thank Ghanaians for Support After Fatal Helicopter Crash

President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Monday expressed their appreciation to citizens and institutions across the country following a helicopter crash earlier this month that left eight people dead.

In a statement issued by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the presidency acknowledged what it described as an “outpouring of solidarity” from Ghanaians and the international community in the aftermath of the August 6 incident.

“We are deeply moved by the outpouring of solidarity shown across the nation and beyond,” the statement read. “Your messages of sympathy, your presence at the state funeral, your practical assistance, and the many acts of kindness extended to the bereaved families have provided great consolation in this time of sorrow.”

Expressions of support poured in from traditional authorities, religious leaders, civil society groups, members of the diplomatic corps, political leaders, and the country’s security services, the statement noted.

The government also commended individuals and corporate entities that helped organize a state funeral and burial service for the victims, praising their role in ensuring the dead received what it called a “dignified and befitting” farewell.

Following the conclusion of funeral services, the Chief of Staff directed that national flags—which had been flown at half-staff—be returned to full mast, signaling a resumption of official duties and national life, while continuing to honor the memory of the victims.

“As we return to the duties of #ResettingGhana and building the Ghana we want, let us remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue to support the families affected by this tragedy,” the statement said. “May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”

The crash, which has drawn national mourning, is under investigation by aviation and security authorities.
