The legal representatives of Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku have strongly refuted media reports alleging that he was arrested by operatives of the National Security.
In a statement signed by Lawyer Gary Nimako Marfo, the legal team described the publication carried by Opera News as false, defamatory, and a deliberate attempt to associate the respected officer with a supposed stockpile of ammunition. They have since demanded an immediate retraction and public apology.
The demand notice stated:
*“We act as solicitors for Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku and write pursuant to his instructions. Our client’s attention has been drawn to a defamatory publication on your online news portal alleging that he was arrested following a National Security operation which led to the discovery of ammunition.
We wish to make it clear that our client has not been involved in any such incident. It is unethical journalism for such a damaging report to be published without basic verification.
Accordingly, we are instructed to demand an immediate apology and a retraction of the defamatory publication from your online platform. Kindly take note and comply.”*
