Two decades after the release of Asor, the song that catapulted him into national prominence, Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena is marking the milestone with a star-studded remix and a global tour aimed at reaffirming his legacy in the genre.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz, the artist’s longtime manager, Nana Poku Ashis, confirmed that the Asor remix will feature a lineup of top-tier Ghanaian musicians. Though specific names have yet to be fully disclosed, Ashis noted that the project is intended to match the stature of the original 2004 release.
“It’s an all-star project,” he said. “You can’t approach a song like Asor lightly. It’s a song that demands longevity, not trendiness. We want to create something evergreen.”
The anniversary remix is part of a broader campaign to celebrate Kwabena Kwabena’s impact on Ghanaian music and the highlife tradition. Known for his emotive vocals and instrumental arrangements, the artist emerged in the early 2000s as a torchbearer for a genre grappling with modern reinterpretation.
The Asor remix will be accompanied by a world tour scheduled to begin in August 2025, with performances planned for the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Australia, and key cities in Ghana. Unlike large stadium performances, the tour will focus on more intimate venues to foster closer interaction between the artist and his audience.
Confirmed Tour Dates:
- August 24 – London, UK
- September 6 – Bremen, Germany
- September 27 – Accra, Ghana
- October 4 – Takoradi, Ghana
- October 12 – Washington, D.C., USA
- November 22 – Sydney, Australia
Additional stops in Kumasi and Amsterdam are being finalized, with dates to be announced.
Industry observers say the anniversary initiative could reintroduce Kwabena Kwabena’s signature sound to a new generation of listeners, while reinforcing his role as one of the enduring figures in Ghana’s modern highlife movement.
The remix and tour come at a time when there is renewed interest in legacy African sounds, with artists across the continent increasingly blending traditional genres with contemporary production. For Kwabena Kwabena, the Asor project represents both a look back—and a strategic step forward.
