‘I’ve Got No Girlfriends at UG,” Says Sammy Gyamfi as He Sues Afia Schwarzenegger for Defamation

The Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod and National Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a defamation suit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger, describing her recent allegations as “false, malicious, and deliberately contrived.”

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, July 23, seeks to counter what Mr. Gyamfi calls a calculated smear campaign intended to damage his reputation.

At the heart of the legal action are claims allegedly made by Afia Schwarzenegger accusing Mr. Gyamfi of having multiple girlfriends at the University of Ghana, and of allegedly buying vehicles and property for them.

Responding to the claims, Mr. Gyamfi categorically stated:

“I have no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana and have not at any time purchased vehicles for any so-called girlfriends as claimed by Defendant.”

He also denied ever purchasing property in the United States or elsewhere for his wife or a supposed sister-in-law. Mr. Gyamfi clarified that his wife does not have a sister named ‘Vida’, contrary to what was suggested by the Defendant.

He argued that the statements were made either knowingly or with “unpardonably reckless disregard for the truth,”and were clearly intended to portray him as someone who is “morally depraved and without any scruples.”According to Mr. Gyamfi, the public reaction to the defamatory remarks has been damaging. He recounted receiving numerous calls and difficult questions from colleagues, senior government officials, members of his political party, family members, and contacts both locally and abroad.

He emphasized that the lawsuit is not only about defending his name but also about setting a precedent against reckless and defamatory attacks on public figures.
