President John Mahama received high praise for his address at the United Nations General Assembly, with African Union envoy Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas calling the speech a standout performance on the global stage.
In an interview on Joy News’ PM Express, Dr. Chambas, the AU’s High Representative for Silencing the Guns, described Mahama’s speech as “eloquent, comprehensive, and compelling,” noting that it resonated well beyond Ghana’s borders.
“I was truly impressed,” said Dr. Chambas. “I reached out to President Mahama to let him know how proud he had made all of us — not just Ghanaians, but Africans as a whole.”
According to Dr. Chambas, the address struck a careful balance between domestic priorities, continental issues, and global challenges. He lauded Mahama for effectively weaving national context into a broader narrative about Africa’s role in the international community.
“Ghana has always been a strong voice for Africa,” he said. “The president made sure not to miss that, while also addressing the broader geopolitical climate.”
Among the topics covered in the speech were the weakening of multilateral institutions, ongoing global conflicts, climate change, and migration — issues Chambas said were timely and deftly handled.
“It ticked all the boxes,” he said. “The speech was long enough to address the key points, yet concise enough to hold the attention of the global audience.”
The remarks have been viewed as a moment of diplomatic strength for the former president, whose delivery was described as both measured and impactful.
