Hearts of Oak Clinch 2025 Homowo Cup With 2-0 Win Over Heart of Lions

Accra Hearts of Oak were crowned champions of the 2025 Homowo Cup on Sunday after a decisive 2-0 victory over Kpando Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The win was sealed in the first half, during a clinical four-minute stretch that showcased the Phobians’ attacking efficiency. New acquisition Frank Duku opened the scoring in the 36th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from a set-piece to notch his first goal for the club. Moments later, Duku turned playmaker, delivering a well-timed assist to forward Hamza Issah, who calmly chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to double the lead.

Under the guidance of head coach Mas-Ud Dramani, Hearts dominated much of the first half, executing quick transitions and exploiting gaps in the Lions’ defense. While Heart of Lions emerged from the break with renewed intensity, they were repeatedly stymied by a disciplined Hearts backline that remained largely untroubled throughout the second half.

The Homowo Cup, a ceremonial fixture held in celebration of the Ga people’s annual harvest festival, was played in honor of the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II. The match attracted several high-profile attendees, including National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and veteran Hearts board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe.

The victory adds a symbolic, yet morale-boosting, trophy to Hearts of Oak’s pre-season campaign as the club eyes a strong showing in the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
