Gov’t Releases GH₵25 Million as First Tranche of Assembly Members’ Allowance – Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has disclosed that government is optimistic about the imminent release of funds to support Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister said the initiative is in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 campaign commitment to promote inclusive governance. As part of this pledge, the government promised financial support for PWDs and allowances for Assembly Members to ensure no group is left behind in the national development process.

“We are hopeful that by the close of next week, funds earmarked for Persons with Disabilities will be released,” Hon. Ibrahim stated. “This is a deliberate effort to empower PWDs economically and socially so they are not seen as burdens on their families or society but as active contributors to national development.”

He emphasized that the initiative forms a key component of President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana Agenda on Local Governance and Decentralisation, which prioritizes equitable resource distribution and the empowerment of vulnerable populations at the community level.

The Minister also expressed confidence in the timely release of the District Assembly Common Fund in the coming weeks. He revealed that monitoring teams will be deployed nationwide to ensure that all funds, particularly those for PWDs, are utilized for their intended purposes.

“This is about fairness, inclusion, and accountability,” he added. “Every cedi released must make a difference in the lives of the people it is meant to serve.”
