Interior Ministry confirmed Thursday that Monday, August 4, 2025, will not be observed as a public holiday, addressing recent speculation surrounding the date, formerly recognized as Founders’ Day.
In a statement issued July 31, the ministry pointed to the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, and reiterated that only dates listed in the officially sanctioned 2025 holiday calendar, as approved by the President, qualify as statutory holidays.
The move comes after days of public uncertainty about whether the August 4 observance, removed in recent reforms, would still be recognized.
“August 4 does not appear on the official list of public holidays for the year,” the statement said, urging the public, corporate bodies, and institutions to proceed with normal business operations on that day.
