Ghana Sends 40 Metric Tons of Cocoa Products to Palestinians Amid Gaza Crisis

The Government of Ghana on Thursday dispatched 40 metric tons of cocoa-based food products to the Palestinian territories, as conflict and a worsening humanitarian situation continue to grip the Gaza Strip.

President John Dramani Mahama, speaking at a ceremony in Accra, said the donation of locally manufactured chocolate and cocoa products—produced under the Golden Tree brand by state-owned Cocoa Processing Company—represents a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“The images and stories emerging from Gaza, particularly the suffering of innocent civilians, are heartbreaking,” Mahama said. “This donation underscores Ghana’s commitment to shared humanity, and to supporting our brothers and sisters in their time of need.”

The shipment includes high-nutrition cocoa-based products, which Ghanaian officials say could provide critical dietary support to vulnerable populations—especially women and children affected by ongoing violence.

Mahama reiterated Ghana’s support for a two-state solution and called on all parties to pursue dialogue over confrontation. “We believe that peace is possible,” he said.

The humanitarian contribution was received by Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdalfatah Al-Sattari, who described the gift as both deeply symbolic and emotionally resonant for people enduring hardship in Gaza.

“If this chocolate arrives in Gaza—and it will—the joy it will bring to the people cannot be overstated,” said Al-Sattari. “Even the sight of it will be uplifting. The taste will be something beyond happiness.”

The ambassador painted a bleak picture of life in Gaza, where civilians have faced severe food shortages amid an escalating conflict with Israel and what he described as a near-total blockade on aid over the past two years. “I know my people in Gaza and the West Bank, and I know the suffering they are going through,” he added.

Al-Sattari also acknowledged efforts by other international actors, including Egypt and France, for their ongoing advocacy toward a diplomatic resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The event, held at Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, drew attendance from senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and representatives from humanitarian organizations.

President Mahama concluded with a message of solidarity: “To the people of Palestine, know that you do not walk alone. Ghana stands with you. May peace prevail.”

The cocoa shipment, officials said, is expected to be routed through Egypt for delivery into Gaza under the coordination of humanitarian agencies.
