The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has dismissed reports of a shortage of aviation fuel, assuring the public that the country has sufficient reserves of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) to meet current demand.
In a statement released on Thursday, 24 July, the NPA confirmed that a vessel carrying 10,000 metric tonnes of ATK is currently discharging fuel into three key national depots — 6,000MT to the Tema Oil Refinery, 1,500MT to Ridge Depot, and 2,500MT to PWSL.
The Authority stated that the current supply is expected to last for the next two weeks, with two more vessels at anchorage ready to offload according to schedule. Tankers are also actively distributing fuel from the Sahara Depot to the airport.
The update comes amid public concern following media reports suggesting a shortage of aviation fuel — claims that were also rejected by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. The Ministry described the reports as “false and misleading”, insisting that the aviation sector remains adequately supplied.
The NPA also confirmed that engineers from the Ghana Petroleum Mooring Systems (GPMS) have completed the replacement of 600 metres of critical pipeline infrastructure, ensuring the smooth continuation of fuel discharge operations.
The Authority expressed appreciation for the engineers’ round-the-clock work and urged the public and media outlets to disregard misinformation, reaffirming its commitment to energy security across the aviation sector.
