The Governing Board of the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has held a strategic meeting with the management of KARPOWERSHIP as part of a working visit to the Western Region, aimed at enhancing operational cooperation and reviewing service delivery systems.
Led by Board Chairman Hon. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, the delegation’s visit is part of a broader familiarisation tour initiated following the board’s assumption of office. The one-day engagement began with internal meetings at Ghana Gas’s Takoradi office, where discussions centered on policy realignment and reorienting the workforce to meet the company’s evolving strategic goals.
Strengthening Regional Relations
In a gesture of regional engagement, the board paid a courtesy call on Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, at his palace in Essikadu. The discussions highlighted key developmental issues in the region, particularly those linked to energy infrastructure and its socio-economic impact.
Focus on Operations and Staff Welfare
The board also conducted inspections of operational sites across the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. At the Takoradi Distribution Station (TDS), staff raised logistical and welfare-related concerns, citing challenges experienced under the previous administration. Calls were made for greater attention to employee well-being and investment in equipment upgrades.
Strategic Engagement with KARPOWERSHIP
The day’s activities culminated in a high-level meeting between Ghana Gas and KARPOWERSHIP, the operators of a 470-megawatt power barge that currently supplies approximately 23% of Ghana’s electricity to the national grid. Ghana Gas supplies between 80 and 90 million standard cubic feet of gas daily to the facility.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 18, KARPOWERSHIP CEO, Ms. Judith Adjobah Blay, praised Ghana Gas for its consistent fuel delivery and dependable operations, noting that the partnership plays a critical role in ensuring reliable power supply for the country.
Board Reaffirms Commitment to Efficiency
Board Chairman Hon. Totobi Quakyi assured stakeholders of the board’s resolve to restructure Ghana Gas for improved operational efficiency. He reiterated the board’s commitment to prioritising the company’s core mandate while also enhancing the welfare of both technical and non-technical staff.
“This board is focused on results,” he stated. “We will ensure Ghana Gas remains a reliable national asset through sound governance, responsive leadership, and investment in human capital.”
The visit reflects the board’s strategic intent to deepen collaboration with key energy sector players and foster sustainable growth through partnerships and people-centered reforms.
