A mid-day blaze tore through a cluster of makeshift wooden and metal structures near the Madina Redco Flats on Sunday, August 3,prompting a multi-station response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The GNFS reported receiving the emergency call at 12:36 p.m. The first response unit from the Madina Fire Station arrived within four minutes. Additional support from fire stations in Legon, Abelempke, and GNFS Headquarters brought the total number of deployed fire engines to five.
The fire, which engulfed numerous informal structures serving both residential and commercial functions, also damaged utility poles and destroyed goods belonging to traders. The blaze was contained by 1:56 p.m., according to officials. Firefighters remained on site through the afternoon conducting overhaul operations to extinguish lingering hotspots.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the origin of the fire.
