The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd. to suspend production of its popular Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix, citing multiple violations of health and safety standards.
The decision, announced in a statement Sunday, August 3,follows the agency’s earlier recall directive covering all canned versions of the product, as well as select batches in 380g and 1.05kg pouch packaging. The FDA said the suspension stems from mounting consumer complaints that triggered an investigation into the company's manufacturing operations.
Inspectors uncovered poor maintenance of critical equipment and insufficient quality-control systems, according to the agency. "The facility failed to meet the minimum standards required to ensure product safety," the FDA said.
Production will remain halted until Nutrifoods addresses the identified deficiencies and implements corrective measures that comply with regulatory requirements. The FDA added that it will maintain heightened oversight of the company’s operations to ensure full compliance moving forward.
Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd., a subsidiary of Tolaram Group, has not yet publicly responded to the FDA’s findings. Tasty Tom is a widely consumed product in Ghana and several West African markets.
