EOCO Seizes 2019 Lamborghini Urus from Shatta Wale Over Alleged Criminal Proceeds

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from the residence of Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, in connection with an ongoing international financial crimes investigation.

The seizure, which took place on August 5 at the artist’s home in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, follows a joint operation between EOCO and U.S. authorities. According to a press release issued by EOCO and signed by Acting Director General Raymond Archer, the operation was executed in response to a 2023 request from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The luxury vehicle is alleged to be tied to the criminal proceeds of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian national currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States for multiple financial offenses. EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), which led the operation, discovered and secured the vehicle during a lawful search.

Officials stated that the operation was conducted professionally and without incident. Shatta Wale reportedly requested that the seizure be kept out of the public eye, expressing concern that the removal of the high-profile vehicle — which he claimed was central to his brand identity — could damage his public image.

EOCO did not comment on whether further action would be taken against Mr. Mensah but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and part of a broader international collaboration targeting illicit financial flows.
