Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with an investigation into his tax obligations.
The musician, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is said to be assisting authorities with inquiries related to the purchase of a luxury vehicle.
According to a statement issued by his publicist, Sammy Baah Flex, the probe centres on the acquisition of a yellow Lamborghini, which reportedly drew the attention of investigators.
Shatta Wale voluntarily reported to EOCO's offices in Accra on Tuesday, 20 August, accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo.
His management has called for calm, assuring fans that the matter is being handled by a legal team.
"We want to assure all fans and the general public that his legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter," the statement said. "They are taking all necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity."
EOCO has not yet issued an official comment on the case.
